SHIP`s Short Stay Crisis Support program responds to the intensive support needs of individuals with mental illness in a crisis situation which has placed them, or could potentially place them, in conflict with the criminal justice system.
Admission to the Short Stay Crisis Support program requires hospital or partnership agency referral and SHIP acceptance.
This is a voluntary program for individuals – who may or may not be SHIP clients – who are in crisis and requesting an alternative to incarceration or hospitalization.
Following initial intake and assessment, individuals receive 24 X 7 client-centered support to:
Individuals in crisis typically stay for an average of five or six days, to a maximum stay of 14 days.
