Rent Support

Supportive Housing in Peel has a long history of leadership in the creation and co-ordination of safe, affordable housing and supports for individuals dealing with mental illnesses who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.

By establishing vital partnerships with other community agencies, SHIP has increased our ability to provide a variety of housing options to members of our client population.

With funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, SHIP has acquired:

  • 3 capital properties
  • 115 traditional housing units (for independent living, shared accommodations, family housing)
  • Over 250 new housing units (including units where rents are supplemented)

Rental support units are leased by SHIP on behalf of our clients. Rent is based on the individual client’s income.

Support services are offered by a case manager/housing support worker through Trillium Health Centre or Reconnect Mental Health Services. These services are also flexible and personalized to the client’s needs. Their assistance helps clients set up their housing unit with necessary items, and connects the individual with other services available in the community.
