Housing Overview and Criteria

As a housing advocate, Supportive Housing In Peel is continually improving and updating the community residence model. All of the buildings owned or leased by SHIP have been upgraded and improved for the benefit of our tenants and as a further benefit to the surrounding neighbourhood. In this way, SHIP balances our dual roles of responsible landlord and good community neighbour.

The members of our client population living in our safe, affordable housing are encouraged to seek independence and functionality in their daily lives at home and out in the community. SHIP further supports and promotes a sense of community for our clients through ongoing building improvements and property maintenance. Our neighbourhood settlement policies model pride of ownership and community spirit.

Supportive Housing In Peel is dedicated to our good neighbour role. As a non-profit organization, SHIP continues to invest in the communities of Toronto West, Mississauga, Port Credit and Brampton and Caledon.

Criteria

Safe, affordable housing promotes independence and functionality. It is vital to the self-esteem of our client population and it fosters an increased sense of community. All of the buildings Supportive Housing In Peel owns or leases were specifically chosen for their proximity to a grocery store, a pharmacy, easy access to public transit and GO Stations.
Many of our capital properties have been renovated and/re-modelled. In our role as landlord, SHIP makes the building improvements and upgrades necessary to ensure a quality of living for the client population we serve.

In a recent letter from one of our clients, she explained the benefits of housing provided by SHIP in her own words….

“A good level of self-esteem and self-respect is essential for overall health and wellness of all people but especially those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged due to circumstances beyond their control. Living in a clean and healthy home with a good landlord makes all the difference in the world.” S.D.
