Homelessness Initiative
As a non-profit mental health services organization, one of the primary goals of SHIP is to provide housing to individuals dealing with mental illnesses who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.
With funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and partnerships with existing agencies, SHIP has taken a leadership role in administering two homelessness initiatives:
SHIP maintains leasing agreements with private and non-profit housing providers in Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, York, and Toronto’s west-end. SHIP also owns and operates three capital properties.
Supportive Housing in Etobicoke/York (SHEY) is a partnership of SHIP, Trillium Health Centre, and Reconnect Mental Health Services. SHEY offers residential, community, and personal support services to individuals suffering from a mental illness who utilize the hostel/shelter system due to homelessness, or who are at imminent risk of homelessness.
Housing and Support Peel (HASP) is a partnership of SHIP, Peace Ranch, Peel Addiction Assessment and Referral Centre, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and India Rainbow. HASP provides housing, support, and specialized services to the SHIP client/tenant population.
