After more than twenty years of dedication and commitment, SHIP continues to advance the development of mental health housing and supports for individuals dealing with mental illness.
Our goal has fostered an attitude of advancement that creates and encourages proactive thinking.
From the early 1980s, SHIP has steadily expanded to meet the needs of the population we serve. Starting with two small group homes with a total of 16 clients, we now provide housing and supports to an additional 100 clients. These members of our consumer population live in independent housing units in integrated social housing communities.
In 1999, SHIP took a leadership role with partner agencies to set up and co-ordinate housing and supports for individuals dealing with mental illness who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. Launched in 2000, our Homelessness Initiative has grown to include an additional 250 housing units in the Region of Peel and Etobicoke/York.
Our desire to address the needs of our clients continues to propel us forward, turning ideas into initiatives. Please continue to view our website to learn about new programs including, Case Management, Early Intervention, our ACT Team, and our Short Term Residential Crisis Program.
